Slang, jargon, idioms, proverb分别是什么意思?学习英语的朋友们通常都会碰到一个误区,那就是这几个乍一看来其实没什么区别,多学多用即可。但实际上还是有细分的。它们各司其职,大家在工作学习生活中如果能多用,用的对,才能真正贴近native-speaker。下面让我们首先从定义上来了解这四类的区别。
(A)Slang-俚语
Very informal words and expressions that are more common in spoken language, especially used by a particular group of people, for example, children, criminals, soldiers, etc.
特殊人群使用的生活化的语言,可以是单词,词组。例如jonesing,在美国表示特别渴望得到某些东西。 I’m jonesing for pizza, can I have a piece?
(B)Jargon-行话,黑话
Words or expressions that are used by a particular profession or group of people, and are difficult for others to understand
某个特定职业或特殊人群使用的词汇、表达方式。通常外行的人是无法理解的。例如,hat trick,在足球领域里意思是一场比赛连进三球。
Ronaldo made his 80th career’s hat trick last Sunday.
(C)Idiom-习语,成语
A group of words whose meaning is different from the meanings of the individual words.
习语,顾名思义就是大家约定俗成的习惯用语。它可以是简单的词组,短句子,但其意思和原本单词的意思大相径庭。如果大家对一个简单的习语逐字的翻译成中文,很难理解真是的意思。例如,break a leg字面意思是扭伤腿,但实际意思是祝…取得成功。Break a leg on your presentation John.
(D) Proverb- 谚语,格言
A proverb is a short sentence that people often quote, because it gives advice or tells you something about life.
谚语,是简短的句子(注意不是单词、词组)。英语谚语几乎在所有英语国家里广泛流传。和中文的谚语一样,它们往往有着很长的历史,给后人建议。通常谚语都是来自于文学作品或者其他古老的故事。由于广泛的使用以及悠远的历史,很多谚语的出处已经无从得知。例如,The early bird gets the worm.早起的鸟儿有虫吃。形容做事情先人一步。 |
